Materuni Waterfalls Day Trip
Join us on an unforgettable Day Trip to Materuni Waterfalls, located on the scenic slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. After a short drive from Moshi or Arusha, your adventure begins with a fascinating visit to a local Chagga coffee farm. Learn the ancient art of coffee-making, from roasting to grinding, and enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee while immersing yourself in the vibrant culture of the region.
Next, hike through lush coffee and banana plantations to reach the spectacular Materuni Waterfall, a 90-meter cascade surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. Take a refreshing dip in the cool pool at the waterfall’s base, or simply relax and enjoy the awe-inspiring views. Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch in the village, followed by time to explore and experience local life. Conclude your journey with a relaxing drive back to Moshi, filled with memories of the culture, nature, and hospitality of the Chagga people.

Materuni Waterfalls Day Trip
Starting point: Moshi town (or Arusha with an early start)
Best time to visit: Morning to early afternoon (avoid late-day rain)
Duration: 6–8 hours total
Depart from Moshi
Around 06:30 to 07:00 Have an early breakfast at your hotel or a local café. Depart Moshi by car (about 15 km, 45 minutes’ drive) to Materuni village, located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Optional,If coming from Arusha, leave around 5:30 AM (2 to 2.5 hrs drive).
At 08:00 we arrive at Materuni Village and meet your local Chagga guide at the village office. Register and pay the entrance/community fee. Receive a short briefing about the area and local customs.
Around 08:30 to 10:00 at Materuni Coffee Tour we will Visit a local coffee farm where you’ll learn the traditional Chagga coffee-making process. Participate in roasting, grinding, and brewing coffee the traditional way and enjoy a cup of your own! The great opportunity to interact with the locals and take photos.
Around 10:00 to 12:30 we will Hike to Materuni Waterfall, Hike through lush green coffee and banana plantations toward the waterfall. The trail takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour each way, depending on pace. Enjoy the scenic views of Mount Kilimanjaro (if weather permits). Reach the stunning Materuni Waterfall (about 90m high) — take photos and a refreshing dip in the pool if you like (bring swimwear and towel).
Around 12:30 to 13:30 we will get a Local Lunch and return to the village for a traditional Chagga hot lunch, usually including Rice, beans, banana stew, and local vegetables. Optionally, cold Kilimanjaro beer or fresh juice.
Around 13:30 to 15:00 it’s time for Cultural & Relaxation, explore more of Materuni village visit local homes, or small craft stalls. Relax and enjoy the views of Kilimanjaro if it’s clear. Optional, Short walk around the village or visit a nearby stream.
Around 15:00 to 16:00 we return to Moshi. Depart Materuni and head back to Moshi. Arrive by around 4:00 PM, plenty of time to relax or enjoy dinner in town.

All i got from our trip at Tarangire National park, Serengeti National park and Ngorongoro conservation area, it was so wonderful it was such an amazing trip that i have never experience before. We booked our Tanzania safaris from home with Kilifaith Adventures. Faith is very professional, not complicated, and wanted us to have a good time in Tanzania. Everything was organized very well, the price-performance ratio was very good, and as we have hoped. The guide had great knowledge about the landscape, the animals and could deal with the "safari problems" (flat tire and a little electronic problem). The cook Juma is absolutely amazing and we really felt that cooking is his passion. We always had great breakfasts, a huge fruity lunch, and very healthy and fantastic dinners. Great company and absolutely recommend them!
I did the 7 day Machame route. Our guide Joseph got us all to the top. We were met at the airport by Junior and took us to the lodge. We met a wonderful staff at the lodge and met our coordinator Faith. We did a 3 day safari after our climb and it was amazing as well. One of the best vacations we have ever done in 20 years.
