Visiting Lake Manyara in January

The dry season wildlife crowds haven’t yet arrived, so you can experience the park’s diverse flora and fauna in relative peace. Migratory birds are also present, making it an excellent time for birdwatching, especially around the shores of Lake Manyara, where thousands of flamingos congregate. The moderate temperatures and refreshing air make hiking trails through the park especially enjoyable.

This is also a quieter time for visitors, so you can enjoy more intimate experiences on safari, without the hustle and bustle of peak season crowds. While it’s still possible to spot many species, some wildlife might be more dispersed in the denser vegetation. If you don’t mind the occasional light rain shower, January is an excellent choice for nature lovers who want a more relaxed, immersive experience in this beautiful park.

The landscape is vibrant and teeming with life, making it a perfect setting for a safari.

Wildlife sightings remain abundant, with elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and a variety of antelope species present. However, as the park is greener, some animals may be harder to spot, so your guide will be a key asset in locating them. February is also prime birdwatching season, with migratory species flocking to Lake Manyara’s shores. If you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled experience with the added beauty of blooming flowers and lush landscapes, February is an excellent month for your Lake Manyara adventure.

The lush vegetation creates a serene atmosphere, and the park is less crowded compared to the peak season.

While some roads may become muddy and challenging to access, the park remains accessible, and the wildlife is still abundant. May is also a great month for birdwatching, as migratory birds remain in the park, and the variety of bird species is outstanding. While the wildlife may be more spread out due to the abundance of vegetation, you’ll still encounter elephants, giraffes, and other animals near water sources. For photographers and nature enthusiasts, May offers a unique opportunity to experience the park at its greenest and most tranquil. If you’re looking for a quieter safari experience before the peak season kicks in, May is an ideal choice.

Visiting Lake Manyara in June

June is the beginning of the dry season in Lake Manyara, and it marks one of the best times to visit the park. The weather is cooler, and the landscape is beginning to dry out, making wildlife more concentrated around water sources. This is a fantastic month for game drives, as animals are easier to spot, especially elephants, buffaloes, and giraffes. The park’s vibrant green landscape from the rains is still visible in the early part of the month, but it gradually gives way to the dry season, which brings clearer skies and comfortable temperatures.

The dry season also marks the start of the peak tourist season in Tanzania, so while Lake Manyara’s safaris are still peaceful compared to places like Serengeti, it’s a great time to see wildlife in action. You’ll have the chance to witness incredible wildlife moments, like predators hunting and herds of wildebeest migrating. Whether you’re exploring on foot or by vehicle, June offers the best conditions for spotting animals and enjoying the park’s stunning views.

Visiting Lake Manyara in July

July brings the full onset of the dry season to Lake Manyara, making it an ideal month for safaris. The park is less lush than in previous months, but this offers a clearer view of wildlife, as animals gather around the remaining waterholes. The skies are clear, and the weather is perfect for long game drives, hiking, and walking safaris. This is also the start of peak safari season in Tanzania, so you can expect great wildlife sightings in both Lake Manyara and nearby parks.

In addition to abundant wildlife like elephants, lions, and giraffes, the dry season makes it easier to spot animals across the park. Birdwatching remains fantastic, with migratory birds still present around Lake Manyara. July is also ideal for hiking Mount Meru, as the weather is mild, with clear skies offering incredible panoramic views. Whether you’re into wildlife photography, hiking, or cultural experiences, July provides the perfect conditions for an unforgettable adventure in Tanzania.

The weather is warm, but the evenings and mornings are cool, providing comfortable conditions for exploration.

The dry conditions also make it easier to access all parts of the park, from the lake’s shores to the forests. October is also great for birdwatching, as migratory birds still fill the shores of Lake Manyara. The combination of optimal weather, abundant wildlife, and minimal rainfall makes it one of the best months for a safari experience. Although the park can be a little busier than in earlier months, it still offers a relatively peaceful environment for those seeking a more intimate wildlife experience. While you may experience some afternoon showers, mornings and early afternoons remain ideal for game drives and wildlife viewing. The lighter crowds during November provide a more peaceful safari experience, with an opportunity to explore the park at a more relaxed pace.

The rains lead to an abundance of food for wildlife, which results in animals being more dispersed throughout the park. However, the park’s rich biodiversity, including its famous tree-climbing lions and diverse birdlife, remains visible. Birdwatching is particularly rewarding as migratory species settle in and local bird populations thrive. If you prefer a quieter, off-the-beaten-path safari with lush scenery and fewer crowds, November offers an excellent opportunity to connect with nature in a more serene setting.

We booked our Tanzania safaris from home with Kilifaith Adventures. Faith is very professional, not complicated, and wanted us to have a good time in Tanzania. Everything was organized very well, the price-performance ratio was very good, and as we have hoped. The guide had great knowledge about the landscape, the animals and could deal with the "safari problems" (flat tire and a little electronic problem). The cook Juma is absolutely amazing and we really felt that cooking is his passion. We always had great breakfasts, a huge fruity lunch, and very healthy and fantastic dinners. Great company and absolutely recommend them!

Alexavier Maxwell Dec 2020

I did the 7 day Machame route. Our guide Joseph got us all to the top. We were met at the airport by Junior and took us to the lodge. We met a wonderful staff at the lodge and met our coordinator Faith. We did a 3 day safari after our climb and it was amazing as well. One of the best vacations we have ever done in 20 years. Highly recommend Kilifaith adventures and request Joseph Moshaas your guide.
